Cakes have been an important centrepiece at a wedding, but why? The wedding cake as we know it today was originally made of small wheat cakes. These were broken over the head of the bride to bestow fertility and send good luck for her future. This is one wedding cake tradition, that thankfully for the bride with her glamorous hair style is no longer practised. The cutting of the cake at one time was meant to be done only by the bride, and was symbolic of her upcoming loss of virginity. But today this involves the groom as well and sharing the first bite together symbolises the wedded couple’s promises to share a life together.
These cakes come in all shapes and sizes and are dependent on the amount of guests attending the reception. Many people make sure their wedding cake fits in with their wedding theme or colour scheme.

This vintage afternoon tea party inspired cake is very cute. I love the mini bunting around the bottom and the colour scheme. The little teacup on top makes this cake extra special.

If you just can’t decide on white or brown why not have half and half? This awesome cake has it all with it’s delicious looking chocolate half with cute strawberries covered in chocolate made to look like a suit. On the other half it looks like a lacey wedding dress.
We hope you have plenty of inspiration!
