Host an engagement bash to remember!

If you have just got engaged, congratulations! Arranging the engagement party is such an exciting element of the overall experience. It’s the key time to introduce people from your lives that will be seeing more of each other.

As well as this, it’s also a nice opportunity to get to know both of your in-laws and friends more. The party should fall within a few months of the initial engagement, and the preparing should give you an insight into what it’ll be like planning the big day.

Who to invite?

Typically you should invite the people who you aim to invite to your actual wedding day.  You don’t necessarily have to have your party in the evening, if there are children coming you could throw your bash on a Saturday afternoon! Why not take a look at our adorable selection of engagement invites?

A cute idea is to make or buy a bunting and put the date you got engaged on it. Get some large balloons spelling L.O.V.E, and hang polaroid snaps of you and hubby to be around the place.

You might be thinking about making your party a themed party, a roaring twenties party is very popular as is a vintage themed garden party or how about a masquerade ball, we have written some blogs for themed parties to help you plan which you can view here, and we have a great range of themed and vintage invitations which can be used for engagement parties.

You could use the same colour scheme as your wedding to make everything co-ordinated from start to finish or if you had a hard time settling on a colour scheme why not use the engagement party as an opportunity to decorate with your second choice of colour.

If you have already set the date for your big day then you can use your engagement party to remind people to save the date, use the date of your wedding to decorate the venue.  From posters to beer mats, bunting to drink stirrers put your date out there to make sure everyone remembers.

Flowers are always a great addition to party decorations.  You can create some simple centerpieces or hire your favorite florist to do some for you. If you’re having a themed engagement party, keep things elegant by not going overboard with party shop supplies, we love this idea of seasonal flowers arranged in pots spelling love!

beautiful decor for an engagement party, bridal shower or even a wedding :). Love this! Use bright red flowers pots, burlap and cut out letters with black vinyl

Food and Nibbles

When you’ve planned how to dress your venue to perfection start thinking about what food to serve. You can never go wrong with a buffet which will have plenty of choice for everyone! Cake is an absolute must, and is a good excuse to try out a few cake makers before you decide on your cake for the big day, of course the cake doesn’t need to be anywhere near as elaborate as a wedding cake and cupcakes are an excellent idea

Like the color and the idea. Except i wouldn't want those black heart shaped things on top! "A Promise to us" can go on top of the topper or along the edge of the topper.. Engagement Party Cake What a fun way to have cake!

You may be having a bar at the venue or asking guests to bring a bottle, either way make sure you have plenty of beverages on hand for the toasts. Traditionally champagne is the obvious choice but if you are on a budget a nice bottle of Prosecco will work just as well.  Or for a twist on tradition you might like to offer champagne cocktails – you could even choose the cocktail to match your colour scheme!  Grape juice is good alternative for drivers and non-drinkers.

Thank You Notes

It is traditional to thank you guests for attending your engagement party and for any gifts you may have received.  Although handwritten thank you notes are still very much appreciated with the busy lifestyles we lead today you may want to get your thank you notes pre-printed to save you time writing to each guest and this is perfectly acceptable nowadays.

We offer our matching thank you notes at a reduced price if you order at the same time as your invitations.  They can be personalised with as little or as much information as you require and a space can be left for you to write in the guests names, gift or sign yourself if required, just let us know at the time of ordering and we can proof them for you to check they are exactly as you want before we go to print.

Once again congratulations on your engagement and we hope you have a great time celebrating!
